This time of year even with the most dedicated skin care regime the cold weather and central heating can take its toll on your skin leaving it dry and dull looking. Dehydrated skin can take time to get back into tip top condition, so before it does you can also use some make-up techniques to cheat your way to brighter, glowing and better looking skin.

Prep and prime
If you thought primers were only for oily skin, think again. Because they actually work as a protective layer (from the cold elements) and can help lock in your moisturiser. Use an illuminating primer or hydrating primer like the Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Primer (£28) to keep skin looking lit from within.
Ace your base
Foundation will cling to dry patches and can take a lot of work to blend into your skin. So look for a formula that's not just ultra light but moisturising too. Tinted moisturisers are a great option for those who don't need coverage, but for those who prefer a more polished appearance, choose the next generation of water based foundations which will cover and hydrate at the same time. We like Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua (£32) and Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow! (£24.50).
Supermodel skin in an instant
A little face powder is essential to keep your make-up on, but they don't have to leave skin looking super matte. Always use a large fluffy face brush for a light coverage. Mineral powders leave a glowing look to the skin, try Laura Mercier Mineral Powder (£22) or Bare Minerals Finishing Powder (£22).
Shine bright like a diamond
Everything you apply to your face should leave a glow, but we're not talking disco ball effect. You can also apply highlighters, illuminating bronzers or blushers to further boost your skins luminosity. We love Dior Amber Diamond Shimmering Face Powder (£28.45) and Nars Laguna Bronzer (£25) for fail safe, instant skin shimmers.
kiss me quick
Valentines is fast approaching and unfortunately in winter lips can look less than kissable. Keep them soft, colourful and moisturised with hydrating lip colour. We are huge fans of Dior Addict Lip Glow (£23) for the prettiest pop of colour.
